Detector(s) used
se pro, excal. II, ctx 3030
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Let me fill u in why I wanted the G2.
1)…at pro has not been released yet – have one on order since knowledge of it.
2)…I am looking for a light weight beach machine and can pick up and go……..hunt dry if I want, damp if I want, dirt/woods (button zone for me) and shallow water………..with a screen……………..never liked screens until I got the etrac and f75.
In my quest for this one detector I have tried many, probably like many of us have done over the years.
3 sovereigns, several excels, expII, etrac, 2-f75’s, Cibola, silver umax, compadre and se pro. We all know the minelabs will cover all my needs, but none are light when mounted like I have had them. F75 was the best dirt heater I have used, etrac 2nd, new se pro has never been in the woods yet, but I know it will be fine…..both expII and now se pro are waterproofed in a box or a bag and do just great……bag model I can see and use the screen……..
Tesoro’s worked great – light, but poor in the damp and waters edge as was the f75.
Now out comes the G2….sounds like the ticket….hard to find one, but I did and for the last several days it has proven to be a fine little heater. I can go from dry to damp and into the water and it runs as smooth as any heater I have ever used (saltwater)……………I am happy……………….
In the next few days I will try and do some depth testing against my se pro and hopefully my buddies new one and anyone else I run into while on the beach, last 3 trips I have not see 1 hunter.

NICE!! EVEN GOT YOUR SELF A BUFF!!! COOL!

Interesting. I really like the Teknetics line. They are gold hounds. Some of my best scores have been with the T2. I run it hot @ 70+ sensitivity in the dry and goes deep and the smallest ticket doesn't escape the double D. Get into the damp, I lower the sensitivity @ around 50. Still get great depth. What I like the most is that it is lightweight. It is with me every day, and I can stop for an hour and run a quick scan with ease. Keep us posted on the G2.

Congrats Max..will be watching to see what your opinions are .. go get er done.

It looks like the buffalo was buffed...it think if you had treated it with vinegar and salt it would have turned out nice, sweet finds!

max! ya shoulda kept quiet on this one

how big is the coil? they can do this one exactly like the at pro ,make it waterproofed and bam you have an at pro.but i have a feeling this one is better.

Have you given the Minelab XTerra 505 a shot? It's lightweight and gives you MLF performance on dry and wet sand.

The Minelab X-Terra's and wet black sand + salt water

There's no denying that the Minelab X-Terra's are solid performers but when it comes to black sand, salt water beaches, they do not handle that area any better than most single-frequency VLF detectors. The X-70/705 has the additional range for ground balance but even those model false and chatter a great deal once you get into the wet sand / surf line area. If you are talking about hunting the white sugar sand beaches in Florida, sure but then again, almost any detector on the market can handle those conditions.

There is a reason beach hunters on the east and west coasts use PI or multi-frequency detectors when they hit the wet sand region.

The G-2 offers additional capabilities in balancing out these two opposite conditions (black sand and salt water). The AT Pro seems to have an expanded range as well but the test reports are not out yet.

Oops. Didn't know you're dealing primarily with black sand. Yes, you're right, PI is the way to go. I think you're smart holding off on the AT Pro until we hear for sure just what its capabilities are.

Black Sand + Salt is the Problem for Most Detectors

Virtually any detector can work the dry sand but along the west coast and the east coast from Georgia north, the combination of black sand and salt water is the Achilles heel for most single frequency VLF detectors. The X-Terra's have the ability to operate at different frequencies based on the coil that is installed but they are still single frequency detectors.

I have tried most detectors out there at one time or another along the beaches from Georgia to Maine and to get real decent depth, either a PI unit or a detector such as a Fisher CZ or Minelab FBS / BBS detector is needed. Word I have gotten from the few that have gotten G2's is that Dave and his team have worked some magic and found a way to get improved depth on a single frequency detector in these conditions.

I think the next year or so will bring out some detectors that address this issue at prices that will make some of the high-end detectors take a large hit in terms of sales . . . . . Teknetics and Garrett have shown that performance does not have to cost a boatload of money as the Tek 8000, G2, Ace 350 and hopefully the AT Pro have shown . . . . . .

i have had two xterras.........one of the first

700 jobs and then a few years later i gave another one a spin

noisy here in va beach

i see now they a special model 705 gold nuget job......high freq.........

i used the G2 again today.......god it does work good here all over, especially in the damp and wet zone and shallow water and ground balances great and super fast.......now that is a plus for me.

i am going to try and rig up some type of sling for it in the a.m. and use my frankenpro for some depth tests, but deep down i do not feel it will match up with it in the damp zone.............i hope i am wrong

more to follow on that.

i bought 2 re-chargeable nick metal hy. batteries for it today..........it only uses 9v (1).......and manual says no heavy duty batteries...........i have a million of those.......bought a six pack the other day of alkalines.........manual says ALKALINES OR RE-CHARGABLE NICKELS........... strange i thought.......................c o m m e n t s please

only found some clad today.......but i did see two nice yellow metals from the deepzone today.

Max keep us posted I can fuel the jet and head your way if you need me to follow you around with the G2 and check signals.
