Is this the real deal?

Thinking this might be man made mortar? Thoughts?
Found at Kennekuk County Park, Danville IL. Vermilion County. There is an old mound site along the river about 2 miles from the creek where we found this.

If you found it in a park and it is an artifact it may be illegal for you to take it.

I didn't take it. I just moved it to a secure location and if it ia real I will bring it to the visitors building.

It's certainly a worked stone, provenance will be difficult but not impossible.

In the first picture that looks like a piece of limestone.
Water does weird stuff to limestone.
Where are you seeing that it was worked?

I have to agree on closer it looks like natural formation after looking at it zoomed.
