This item i found i me back yard me mate at about 2" in...when i first dug this i thought it was coin with all the dirt on it...it is very thin and nothing on the back

Says from the USA with is that date 1834? Was there money then? Maybe it is a really old attempt at counterfeit? Yes, I agree with the others on this, Cool Find!

I don't think this would have been an attempt to counterfeit anything, as I don't seem to recall any coinage with that particular design. I think everyone is on the right track with one piece of a two-piece button, ot a flat button with the shank knocked off.

It is one of many that went on a chain. The loop on the top has brokken off. I found a gold plated one once. There from like the 1960's.
