It's Beautiful and I've Never Seen Anything Like It

Found this today. Thought it was some kind of scissor until I opened it. They're not scissors at all.
Instead of a second blade it has a compartment with some kind of device (for crushing something maybe).
It has three feet for standing. It's spring-actuated to close automatically. Very decorative. No markings.

Any ideas what it is and how old? Very interesting whatever it is.

Very cool I like how ornate it is, that was from an era, when it wasn't a throw away society things were made to last.I was going to say garlic crusher but candle snuffer sounds about right.

Also it's most likely mid to late 1800's. Any hallmarks? Some were Sterling silver. Look them up and you may find a match to yours!

I should have read your post more closely when I asked if there was any hallmarks on it because you said no markings! Haha
