here are some of my recent woods finds (first time doing the winter woods hunting, but had to try) most of the finds came from a wooded area of a local city park. the coins were all 4-5 inches deep including a bit of snow but easy digging for the most part. Felt so nice to see some silver to come out of the ground. been a long winter (month and a half ;D ) anyway, found a 53d quarter, 44d merc, 26d wheat, 46 jefferson, and I think maybe my first bird tag? anyone know about these? are they pigeons or what? also a lipstick tube, and a cool panther necklace charm.(local high school mascot) sure was good getting out. HH all. Griff

I think that "cat" is either a Mercury cougar or a "thundercats" logo... was it gold?
no not gold, >:( and I think that its a local high school, western panthers, not sure though

Nice! Made gettn out in this cold worthwhile. Me, i'll stay inside on my day off, where it's warm (i work outside).....nice older silvers PG, i found a few yesterday but didn't leave my chair, ha! ffd

Nice digs! Sure looks like a bird band. I have found a few, even one with a pigeon leg bone still in it.
I found that one in VA though. Most of them have a split in them so you can put them around the leg then crimp them on. What is all the info on it? Congrats on the silver. The cat emblem looks like a Mercury Cougar?

Nice assortment of finds there PG.
Congrats on your first of many silver finds for 2010. :icon_thumleft:
Glad you got out!

Looks like you're off to a silvery start. :icon_thumleft: That bird band is neat....I've never found one. What does it say on it?

Keep digging!

thanks for the replies everyone. yeah still not sure if it is a bird band or not, just because there is no opening where it could be put on and crimped. but anyway, it say URC 95 F567. HH all

Nice finds Postal, Congrats on the silver!

Good luck,
HH.

Hey Griff, nice hunt. Glad to see ya gettin out there. As for the band, If that is a bird band,it would be a cage bird band like a parrott or parakeet or something like that. The 95 may be the year of importation. Cage bird bands are the only bands that are seamless. I would try taking it to a pet shop or something and see if they can tell you anything. Good luck and keep us posted.
