Thought I'd add a little more to this story since it's been 4 yrs since Jeff's post.

John Swim was quite the character and I would have like to have met him. After reading several of the newspaper articles it made me wonder how John
could have made so much money. No articles mentioned what he did for work. But in one article (not posted) he mentions his work/trade as a "Huckster".
He must have been very good a trading.

This was his last address in Ohio. I don't believe he hid any money in the Richmond, Indiana area
as a couple of Indiana newspaper articles referenced. I could be wrong, though, I just couldn't find anything.
