has the new owners of T-NET started selling members info?

this is the only m.d.ing site i ever use and i cant figure out

YES!! Usually once a day. It drives me crazy also because you have to scroll through 2 pages of folks email addresses to get to the actual message. It is definately spam that has come from someone getting access to all our email addys.

I'm glad you brought this up dozer, maybe one of the mods can answer us some questions. :help:

you're right with the needing answers.

like i said before, this is the ONLY m.d.ing site i use because in my opinion

its the best for about any of my m.d.ing or prospecting needs.

there will never be a t-net equal.

No I get no metal detecting spam whatsoever. It must be coming from other sources because I cant recall ever getting any. Ill have to search back a few years to check.

Do you have your email address in plain site on your profile? I decided to hide mine because I received to many emails from members. I prefer they PM me here at TN.

Thats the smart thing to do. I wouldn't want my email address in public view anywhere. It can still be found, but i'm not going to invite spammers.

logged in, clicked the "hide email" box on my profile

tried to chang profile. it said i needed current password

i entered current password and retried, "hide email" box on my profile

it said i needed current password

Aha so your email was in plain view for any member in the world to see. Its possible that is the source of your recent spammers.

ADDED: But i think they need to be a charter member to see your p0rofile so maybe not. Have you purchased any metal detectors lately?

As far as the password, are you using the same password you use to login?

Sounds like a viscious circle icon_wheel.gif

Do you have a secret question? Its right above where you enter your password. You have to answer that too.

Funny you should ask..."NEW OWNER's OF TN"...

Looks like there are conflicting understandings of what's happening or has happened.

What we need is a current RUMOR OF THE DAY subsite.

I nominate you for editor of that forum, so getta a writin

I had my email addy in public view.....so apparently a spammer copied all those that were in public view and started sending crap.

Thanks for the tip guys, no more addy for the public to see now. :tongue3:

I just went to my profile and hid my e-mail without any problem. It did prompt me to enter my password and I did so, in the bottom box on the page. After that there was no problem.

Ive been asked to suscribe to the new buyer
said the owner of this site is tired and needs the money

but as far as i can see, it's still not working.

TreasureNet - possible new owner and management‏

Hi dozer dan,

This is Marc Austin... creator and webmaster@treasurenet.com.

TreasureNet is the oldest and most popular treasure hunting site on the Net... we have over 40,000 members... have been online since 1994, and are consistently ranked in the top 80,000 of ALL websites in the world. With BILLIONS of websites, I guess it's safe to say, TreasureNet is in the top .008%!

In the next few days, there is a good chance that TreasureNet will have a new owner and management.

This is happening because I NEED a chunk of cash - not because I WANT to sell it. I am having to accept a LOW BALL offer out of necessity. :-(

Whatever happens, I just wanted to say thanks for visiting TreasureNet. Without our many members and visitors, TreasureNet would not have been possible.

Thanks,
Marc Austin
