Just found a large cent - can you help me figure out the date?

1848? Though the style looks somewhat different from the other 1848 examples I quickly looked at online.

Even though it is basically trashed I'm a happy gal ;D Found it in my front yard about 20 feet from the side of the road. My house only dates from the 1880s so I suppose it might have come via road traffic. The road is 1700s.

Never thought I would find a large cent in my yard. Whoopie!

Anyone have any recommendations on what to put on it to preserve what little surface it has left?

I am pleased with how that helped my large cent -

:D I just noticed I have a few wood pencil shavings stuck to it in the pic. I didn't take a picture of the back but your advice helped it too. It was just about non existant before and now I can make out some design and words.

I see 1828, nice large cent.
 

1828 or 1818 I'm really happy either way. Such an unexpected find :hello2:

When I look at it in the right light/angle I do think it is 1818. I will try for a better pic --
