I just found this about 20 minutes ago in front of the entrance of an estate on Long Island from the 1700s at 11 inches deep it's the exact size of a quarter but I do not know how to clean it without doing any damage can somebody please give me advice how to clean? Looks like copper and most probably a large cent.

Yes someone posted it looked like a British half penny from the mid 1700's and it looks like there right... It was the first old coin I found and got me excited but still wish it was a U.S. Coin

I'd start with some soapy water and a soft bristled toothbrush after it's been soaking for a day or so.
