Hello all, been keeping away from posting recently. Found it was getting too addictive. The hammered count is progressing well, and had some nice bits and pieces also. I know vanity is a sin, but I had to post this find from today. It's a stunning Anglo Saxon disc brooch. It shows four saxon faces in the angles of a cross. Even totally uncleaned it looks stunning.

Robert.

Stunning is not the word for it, It's absolutely gorgeous. Love it the way it is but want to know what it looks like cleaned too. Congrats!

Can we say Banner ? - Please inform me of the rarity of an artifact like that in that state of preservation , with a touch more info
I'd be all in for Banner - great find either way !

Extraordinary find. That is a once in a lifetime piece.

Stunning indeed. If you do clean it some, please post the results.

Hello Argentium, I've not had one before, enough said :laughing7:

Perhaps Cru can weigh in on the significance of it ! It reminds me of Beowulf somehow , what a find !!!
(I'm sure your piece must predate Beowulf by some centuries - but the imagery is evocative for sure )

It reminds me of what I later IDed as a Saxon Shield Mount with 4 faces, but your faces are much more developed - indicating a later date.

It is a hugely significant find & very commercial. Not one I have seen a match for, but some similar, a great find.

BIG CONGRATS.

Simply magnificent Robert - thanks for posting!

Stunning find. Not much else to add that wasn't said above. Thanks, especially, for sharing this one.

Steve

Well Rob , That's all I need to vote it up top - if you can get " hugely significant" from a bloke with Cru's experience - that's
good enough for me !

( I wouldn't clean that much at all - maybe just tease a little soil off -( Dry )- toothpick or artist brush !)

Congrats.

Amazing find, certainly banner-worthy in my mind. Please share any photo's of it after you clean it (if you have it cleaned).

Wow, without knowing that much of your history, all I can say is that is an amazing piece, very nice

Wow, striking piece! Congratulations!! Some celebrating is in order. :occasion14:

Steve
