Just thought of something.........

Silver will not give iron grunt. It always gives a high VDI readout 70+. If it is next to a nail look for 2 VDIs -5 and 75 ish

Once the target gets real deep like 10"+ sometimes it won't give the VDI it would if it wasn't as deep, I've had some deep whisper signals that came in the 40's VDI that was deep silver dimes. Always dig those really deep whisper signals no matter what the VDI says, I've had some so deep that once the hole was opened up the detector wouldn't pick up it up anymore after the soil matrix was broken, thats when I'll pull out about 12" to 13" of soil and its usually a deep IH or a silver dime. HH

It's the sharp point of the nail that is giving the high VDI.

I use a v3i and have detected dimes before right next or underneath nails where the VDI was in the low fifties like a zinc or indian head penny instead of the high 70's. But the frequency response in pinpoint mode was consistent with silver. Iron in the hole can down average your vdi in some cases.
