Just wondering what everyone carries while MD'ing.

Me personally....I carry an Eddie Bauer bag...in it.....I keep my cell and tablet(if I need to look up anything) camera, lunch keys ipod, headphones, multi tool, cigarettes and water. Hanging On the straps is my pin pointer, digging tool and SOG combat knife ( I don't like stuff hanging off my belt). On me I carry my wallet, pocket knife, and my Sig P220. ( lots of weird people where I go)

I carry my pro pointer and my gator digging tool, a bandanna and my wireless headphones that are awesome by the way. I keep my S&W .40 in the truck, I am pretty fast on my feet, between my digger and detector and my feet I will make it to my truck. I have a lasermax on my .40

Hopefully they dont sneek up on you while you got the headphones on. LOL!

For sure, I try and stay in tune with my surroundings the headphones allow me to hear surprisingly well. I can carry on a conversation with someone 30 feet away.

I carry my Bounty Hunter MD, pinpointer, a garden digging trowel, my Colt and an extra magazine, knee pads, I wear an old hunting vest with pockets and the game pocket to put finds in. I carry a Skoal can with a nail, dime, quarter in it for confirming the detector settings. If I'm walking out of sight of my truck I take a camo painted 5 gallon bucket with an entrenching tool and/or tomahawk, Leatherman Wave multi tool, a small frisbee that fits the bottom of the bucket and I may put stuff I'd other wise have in my pockets in the bucket. Lunch or MRE or apples maybe. Sometimes I'll take a regular full size shovel if I'm really going a ways back in the bush. Sometimes I'll put it all in a back pack instead of the bucket and pockets and may be take a gold pan instead of the frisbee depending on where I'm going.

I go pretty light, just my metal detector in one hand, digging tool in the other hand and finds pouch around my waist.

I don't hunt out in the boondocks anymore, too old for that. Plenty of places in town to hunt and most I find untouched. I do carry a Tazer and a very large, sharp digging tool that I twerl like a drumstick when I get nervous. Won't carry a gun anymore, don't trust myself. I like the work vest they make now much better than the old nail bag I used in the 60's. I also use a large plastic chopstick as probe/stir stick to poke about in the hole and dirt clods. Very sturdy, as long as you don't use it for a pry bar, and they are free at your friendly local chinese restaraunt. I don't carry a camera. What I find where i find it is in my mind for my forever. And one other thing I carry, popscicle sticks. You have to know me to know why.

I always carry a spare coil bolt or two in the car - the nylon ones from the hardware store cost something like 2 for a dollar and work just fine.

with all the talk of weaponry in this thread I am considering carrying a buck hunting knife in a sheath on my belt. I really haven't give much consideration to personal defense while treasure hunting but it makes sense.

In todays world you really should be armed...

I keep it very simple-metal detector/headphones, digger goes in back pocket, a plastic bag to put dirt on. Unless it's a very short hunt I'll also carry a water bottle or soda. If I get enough of a tax refund I'm adding a pinpointer. Finds go in a front pocket, trash in a back pocket. Spare batteries in the truck.

After reading all these posts, the only thing I was left wondering is what are the popsicle sticks for? If you don't tell I'll be forced to speculate, and who knows where that may lead...

Garrett ACE 250
Finds bag on my belt
Digger
1911 .45ACP with 2 spare mags

AT PRO
Garrett Pin Pointer
Kellyco digging tool
Screw driver
Garrett Pouch
Carhart pants with gel knee inserts
head phones; I am hard of hearing
Colt Mustang not for snakes either (legal permit to carry) only once I told someone NOT to get out of the car, they didn't listen. They jumped back in quick and sped away in a hurry though. I might be old, I'm not stupid.

Holly a friend of mine was called by a man who didn't get along with his wife, so he turned his cash into gold, put it into a box, planted a tree and buried the box next to the tree twenty years ago. He divorced his wife and then went to dig up his box but couldn't find it. My friend was called and when he waked into the man's backyard it looked like a battlefield with holes everywhere. My friend had no idea what he was looking for and once he located the target the man literally pushed him away, dug the target, pulled it from the ground and ran into his house. Puzzled my friend waited for the man to return and it was then he told him the story, he gave him a coin for his trouble, which was rather valuable. My question is this, what would happen if this guy dropped dead. Would that cache ever be found? Who knows what secrets the earth holds from us. Like I said in another thread, I hunt because I love the story of what I might find. How did it get there, why... I don't detect thinking I'll ever get rich I do it because digging that hole and finding anything is like being 5 again and it's Christmas. Digging is very difficult for me, hands are bad, knees are bad but I refuse to die. LOL!

This is Wyoming after all.

My sidearm is just so that I can fight my way to a REAL weapon LOL.

Okay, maybe I jest, but aside from carrying a handgun since I was a child, I've been strapping rifles to my bicycles/go-karts/4 wheelers for just as long.

In Wyoming, if you dont have a gun, wont the cops haul you in and hold you until you buy one? :laughing7::laughing7::laughing7: :occasion14:

Yup. Gotta have 3 AR-15s to even consider yourself a resident.

You don't wanna know how many guns are needed to make you a native Wyomingite.

It is WELL into double digits though :P

BTW, I used to live in Rockerville and work as a firefighter/paramedic for the Rapid City Fire Dept. I love my home state to death, but the BHs are a very close 2nd.

Can I "carry" a mid size fire breathing dragon? That's going to be the only legal thing soon.

Won't be long until those are outlawed as well...:BangHead:

Right on  When I lived in Hayward I loved riding my motorcycle home on the old rockerville road every night after work. Excellent twisties in that road. Luckily, I never ended up needing your professional services.:laughing7:

When I am out in the forest I carry my XDm40, three mags, buck knife, diggin' tool (Fiskars) in an old knife sheath, cheap $1.95 cotton carpenters pouch. Extra batteries for detector and pro pointer. Jerky, water, one soda, trailmix, small first aid kit, lighter, waterproof matches, cell phone with solar charger easy to store and fold.

In town detecting- I eat before I go out, I leave a bottle of water or two in the truck. On my waist, my cheap cotton pouch, fiskars in pouch, pro pointer, metal detector, and hat. My life saving tool is usually stowed in my truck for fast access if needed, once I get a another keltec 9 I will carry inside the waist again.
