Keeping up with the Patriot's last hunt

Iron Wars! :headbang:

Got out with Ironhorse today and hit some fields we haven't been to in many years mostly because I had a very strong gut feeling to go back, and then when I realized there was still more ground to cover it was an easy decision. We found a new site, it is very old, but didn't give up a lot. But the good news is only part of it was available to hunt today, and there's still another field to check. Steve, maybe you should give up now... I am the Iron king. :tongue3: ...and about a 20 time silver loser! :laughing7:

Misc.

Designed tombac button

George I Halfpenny (1719-1724)

Mid. 18th century French Trade Axe.

:hello2: I love a challenge…You know me better than that…the last 2 out of 3 times out I found 2 separate halves of trade axes…How many trade axes do you have now? I believe I have close to a dozen but love to dig them! I plan to get out until the freeze for 2 feet of snow so I'll try to have a challenge post… Great finds buddy as usual…Unlike Rick I love old Iron! but I'll take a nice early french next time out too :laughing7:

You're way ahead of me.... my 3rd like this. They don't really turn up often, and when I was chasing the target I knew it wasn't a ball, so figured a trade axe was the next best thing.... so it gave me a little rush seeing it was actually one. At that point we still had some high hopes for what was still to come so I was already pretty charged up when I dug it.

Well I'm glad someone got to dig a few.

GEO I are hard to come by as you well know, and I like the tombac.

I'll be honest I'm not a iron fan, so the axe, well old, is not my favorite of the bunch.

I'm sort of in the middle of the two of you, and the way I described my feelings on cannon balls and trade axes to Ironhorse is they are on the level of what I consider a good find, only I would rather choose something else off the good find shelf to take home. That being said, I have special interest in anything from this area because it was my ancestors who were the original settlers in . It's very hard to get anything at the sites we've already done, so I am very happy to possible add a few more quality items to the few nice things I have dug from that area. I'll be anxious to get back in the Spring, or maybe even this Fall if the weather hangs on and we get to take a shot into that next field.

Nice assortment of finds, I really like the axe!

It was funny a few weeks ago, the other guy I've been detecting with seen me dig a cannon ball and tested it with his detector and said he wouldn't have dug it then 10 minutes later the same reading came up on his machine and then pulls out his first dug cannon ball...just goes to show you if you are in an old area dig that big iron...there is no mistaking the cannon balls under my coil...now those old broken pots throw me off at times thinking I have a trade axe...

that's my problem, the iron signals I end up digging are just broken pots or junk

I don't get lucky often enough with the iron

Wow you guys sure dig some old stuff...thanks IP for sharing....

Looks like a great colonial site. That trade ax is sweet! Are you going to put a handle on it after electrolysis?

No, would ruin it for me. I have a lot of iron to clean this Winter, and to keep motivated for that idea I moved a little cabinet into a corner specifically to display it, and it's going to sit there empty until I do it. :) The hassle for me is coming up with a good process, both the electrolysis and waxing, but once I do, I think I'll be a little more happy about finding iron when I can easily take care of it right away, instead of kicking it around for year after year.

VERY sweet trade axe, congratulations!

I'm always happy to add a trade axe to the collection. I've got 5 but would be glad to make it 6 before the freeze up. I'll be throwing my hat into the ring for the 2014 Great Iron Challenge...I know a place...

Nice hunt, IP! Great looking trade axe.

Yup I was there when you found your first one! All I heard was "BOOYAH"…That's where I got my cannon ball a few weeks back...

Those KG1's don't come around too often, but the trade axe is my favorite. Nice hunt!
