I got out today with Buckleboy and Diggergirl for a 5 hour hunt. Dug the 1900 O mintmark Barber dime that appears to have been lost when brand new. It was very lucky to have not sustained any plow damage as coins we dig in the sugarcane and bean fields often do. But my BEST find EVER, a Kentucky Military Institute button. When it came out the ground i assumed it was a civilian button but when I got it home and began tooth picking I noticed the two persons standing and the letter
"M" between them. I tried a Google search but came up with nothing then got the Tice book out and started flipping pages. I almost fell out the chair when I got to the "Buttons Of Various States" section, tuned to page 285 in the Kentucky section and saw my button there! KYS275A1.
Per the advice of Buckleboy I will seek to have the button restored. I will post pictures after this is completed. Cheers! Shanegalang, The Canefield Bandits!
P.S Also pictured are a couple of wheat cents, some flat buttons, a CW era pistol bullet, some pack studs and other misc. finds.

Awesome job Shane. Way to kick BB's tail there in the cane fields. Congrats on that unusual button find for your area.
First an out of place Bingham Military Academy button, and now this KMI button. I still say there was a brothel down there luring those young lads to your area. That's the story I like anyways. :tongue3:

Nice going on the silver and the button, it'll be nice to see how it looks after you get it restored.

Damn, you are one lucky SOB. The ONE hunt my trusty F75 is gone to be upgraded. When I get that detector back and put the coil to the Louisiana Soil, it's "Game On," buddy! :D I still can't believe you dug a KMI down here. I tried hard to find one of those for 15 years when I lived in the Bluegrass State--and no luck!
Tesoro scores..........again:)

Sweet! That barber was lost fresh from the mint! :treasurechest::icon_thumright:

wow love the button! (can't complain about the barber either lol)

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am STILL excited about these!

Congrats on some great finds there shanegalang! Speaking of Spanish reales did buckleboy tell ya about my counterfeit casting mold? If not its in my most recent post here on Tnet. I've just come back aboard Tnet after a long break! Check it out pretty awesome find!
