Found this Friday eve and spent yesterday looking online for info. I think this is a flintlock pistol frame minus the barrel which were removable. I think it is possibly colonial and was called "Ketland". It has "London" on one side and "Ketland" on the other. I'll add photo's of intact pistols for comparison.

Congrats on such a historical piece, I would dream of finding a colonial flintlock gun, all I find are the round balls that they shot though. Can you imagine that the pirates used similar kind of guns?

Thanks I didn't realize there were so many different types of early pistols. Its pretty beat up but I can still imagine what it might have looked like.

Nice find  When I was a utility inspector back in Baltimore, MD, in 1990, I found an English Naval officers' Twig pistol while working on the Camden Yards stadium site, that dated to around 1765 or so. I had to turn it in, since it was state property. X rays showed it was loaded. When I find the pics of the gun, I'll post them.
UPDATE:
I found an x-ray pic of the pistol and a letter I received from the archaeologist thanking me for my contribution to archaeology. I'll scan and post later tomorrow.
Here is the x-ray pic that was sent to me, along with a letter, after the pistol had been stabilized, about 3 months after I found it.
I do have 1 or 2 pics of the pistol after it was somewhat restored. Not sure where they are, however. Thanks for looking
