My friend did a hand screen dig on part of the Brazos property Fri and Sat. I ran the loader for him and put some fine stuff on the tables. My favorite were a super rare and fine Gahagan blade cached with a mini blade made of the same stone. Always fun digging camp dirt. The finder scored on this one.

Those actually look useful and deadly.

These blades...do we think they were hafted or just wrapped with hide when used?

They were used hafted although I'm pretty sure neither of the first two were ever hafted or used.

I think if I found a nice blade, I’d have to re-mount it on something that was plausibly authentic to the area.
Apparently that is a no no for collectors because I never see any posted here. Maybe it’s because of the possibility of breaking the blade.

I’m thinking a deer antler might be something that could have been used.
Maybe that’s stereotypical thinking.

All I’ve ever found are bird points and scrapers.

Personally I would never put a modern handle on an ancient artifact but that's just my preference. If you find one and it adds value to you heck do it.

I say that, but I’ve never found anything truly ancient, so who knows how I would react.

The idea is attractive to me, simply because it would illustrate how the tool would be used..carried...you would feel a powerful physical connection just by holding it. I doubt many intact hafted blades have been found..maybe buried in peat moss?

I suppose a person could easily have a modern blade made, and do the same thing.

Those blades are truly treasures.

Is that material normal for the area? Beautiful stuff..

Yup. I've held a couple of cool Gahagans and it's hard to really visualize how thin they can be for their size.

That one is as thin as they get. This is number 13 from the site if I counted right. All are finely made but this one looks like Cody flaking. Cody did it with a nice thick center though. This thing is just as thin in the center as the edges. It took a master to drive parallel flakes to the center like of something that flat and thin.

Here are a few more of the thin blades from that site. My buddy has compile in in believable collection that we dug there. Lots of thicker archaic blades too.
