Hey hey, just wondering how much a king john penny is actually worth? Im aware that it depends on condition etc. but i was just wondering if someone could give me a rough valuation between a poor and excellent grading? I heard $300? but im not sure what grading that would be for. Also if anyone has any other information on this coin, it would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a picture of mine, the reverse side of it is quite the same but in slightly better condition with less wear. The split does continue to the reverse side. Its obvious that the split in it would degrade it massively but what are your thoughts on the grading for it? Cheers.

:hello:

Posting a picture of both sides of the coin, would help more :P it might not even be a John, there a several of the short cross coinage, that all have Henric on the Obverse legend, including King John :icon_thumleft:

SS hit the nail on the head, coins from all reigns using short cross can be quite hard to id. Seeing both sides helps a lot. here are three of mine from last year just showing the obverse.

1.) Richard 1st. Struck in 1194ad Monyers name : Everard from the York mint
2.) John Struck in 1205ad Monyers name : Willem from the London mint
3.) Henry 3rd Struck between 1248 - 1250 Monyers name Peris from the Shrewsbury mint

Here is a picture of the front and back. And thanks hammered for your help too, They are real nice coins u have there :) Does anyone have thoughts on a grading? the only thing thats making me say poor is the crack lol but considering its age it may not be such a bad thing?? Im getting right into medieval coin and artifact collecting and am having massive trouble trying to figure out what grading coins would be, because of the fact that they are so so old. Any pointers guys?
cheers :)

Grading or value of a coin doesn't always depend on condition :P it also depends on rarity, and how many of that type are recorded. You could have a very basic Hammered coin...say a Edward1 that would not be worth much, but find one , that there are not many recorded :P and the price jumps. Your reverse is unreadable, but my guess from the obverse picture would be a early Henry111, but it's just that a guess :icon_thumleft:
