Hey guys. I am a La hunter. Never did much on this site but look. I like the La forum. I feel more connected looking at what you guys are finding. I wanted to show some pics of my last two hunts. As you will see we are in a vast soybean field. there are old home sites along the road. I give you a look almost 360 degrees around me witht the pics. I found a carved bullet on the groung just waiting for me to pick up, which i did. the one with the coin on the lump of dirt was actually a Desoto plantation token. anybody know anything about desoto plantation? i couldn't find anything on the net. i had found the triangle base first and then two tokens. I went to get my buddy and bring him to the site. when he gets there he finds 6 tokens in a matter of minutes. we had to go a little early, that killed me. i know where i want to hunt when we get to go back.
I love to hunt and i love to see what others are finding. Nothing better than being out swinging the detector. thanks for looking. Brent

take more pics of your sites and finds in the field. I haven't been doing it the last couple of years but intent to take my camera every time now. It seems you find a fair number of things on top of the ground. i want to start doing pics in my relic database with the location etc. thanks, Brent

Brent,

Welcome to TNet  Nice finds, love that token. I did a little research on De Soto Plantation...here's what I come up with.

http://www.where2guide.com/TouristTrail/subhistory.html

LSU Special Collections: Turnbull-Bowman Family Papers...children in Bayou Sara, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana.....resided on De Soto Plantation in Bayou Sara. When he died (ca....

Daniel Turnbull (1799-1861) became a successful planter, primarily owning cotton plantations. In 1835, he founded Rosedown Plantation where he resided with his wife, Martha Hilliard Barrow Turnbull (1809-1896). Martha was raised on Highland Plantation in West Feliciana Parish. An avid horticulturist, she assembled a large collection of botanical specimens which she planted in extensive gardens at Rosedown. Children of this marriage included James Daniel (1836-1843), Daniel, William B., and Sarah. In addition to Rosedown, Daniel operated Styopa, Catalpa, Middleplace, Hazelwood, Grove, Inheritance, Woodlawn, and De Soto plantations. Daniel Turnbull sold cotton through factors in New Orleans, including his nephew, A. M. Turnbull, who was member of the factorage A. M. Turnbull & Co.

The PDF cannot be copied, so here's the site...www.lib.lsu.edu/special/findaid/4973.pdf

Daniel Turnbull Family Papers, Louisiana and Lower Mississippi ... Daniel's son, William B. Turnbull, resided on De Soto Plantation in. Bayou Sara. ...

I love doing research, so if I can be of any help let me know.

 RR

Brent,

Nice job on the items you found!!! Looks like a nice BIG field to search. Should take a while to clean that one out. There is plenty of us on here that would always give you a hand if it gets too bad. Thanks for sharing!!
