Ah, a clue. The whole thing looked like metal to me (a neophyte), but there's a chip in the stalk, where it looks like it's not solid metal, just some sort of plated composite. So maybe newer than I thought.

Lamps are mass produced.
They might look good but the quality of material is often not what the look represents.
Brass can be often electroplated zinc die cast.
Types like yours where it's dark with lighter highlights are often plaster under the paint or outside coating.
