Anyone here ever use the BH Land Star. If so, opinions please.
I've owned a Land Star since the middle of April. I've gone to the park a couple of times and it works fine finding coins and junk. I've taken it to the beach but couldn't Ground Balance it in the wet sand. But it worked fine in DISC.RodneyQ said:Anyone here ever use the BH Land Star. If so, opinions please.
Almost same cost? Not this side of town! At eBay the Tesoro maxes out at $240 while the Land Star is being offered at up to $380! Look at the uMax: 2 knobs and a flip switch. NO comparison to the Land Star at all!BuckleBoy said:For a little less than the same cost, you could get a Tesoro Silver uMax--which is just as good of a machine--WITH a lifetime warranty.

That said, the uMax will, like any good metal detector, find coins, etc. But you're driving blind with no display.
You are wrong about my "driving blind" comment being inaccurate for when I started in 1979-1980 I "drove" blind for about 5 years as I paid my dues with a detector with no display except for an intensity meter which didn' mean anything as far as indicating what the detector found. The higher priced White's had an expanded meter and I was jealous of them, not being able to afford the many hundreds of dollars they cost. So, for about 5 years I had no idea what my detector was indicating until I opened the ground. After many hundreds/thousands of pulltabs, screwcaps, etc., I started to advance the DISC knob until all I would hear would be cents and up. Only at the beach did I run the detector without DISC.BuckleBoy said:Silver Fox said:Almost same cost? Not this side of town! OK. So the Tesoro is cheaper. So how is 2 knobs and a toggle switch worse than ANY machine with a display?? By the way, I've never owned a "display" machine. Never needed to. I've used them--but didn't like them...because I can get ALMOST as much information from my Fisher 1266-X as you can with your display. So your comment about "driving blind" is inaccurate. Do you think that because a detector looks simple it should be dismissed as a capable machine? Have you ever used a uMax? I've used a Land Star...and it was an *o.k.* machine...with a *limited* warranty, IMHO. So don't come down on me like stink on shyt! I was offering other options to the poster of the thread--since they are obviously interested in purchasing a machine.

Well, meterless or not, the OP was about the Land Star and I've tried to stay on topic.BuckleBoy said:With my Fisher, I can tell whether or not the target is brass, aluminum, zinc, or a coin. I can even tell whether or not the target is a small cent or something better like a quarter or dime. I can also tell approximately how deep the target is from the beep. In the old days of the early 90's when I was finding my share of silver coins, I could even tell whether the coin was silver or clad. My point is that with a meterless machine, you don't have to guess. But you have to know that machine well in order to be afforded that priviledge.

My reply was the only one that tried to answer the OP.
But, as it often happens, some straying occurs because some people have pet peeves they feel they must air having nothing to do with the OP and sometimes becoming emotionally unstable and losing sight of what the OP was about.
Eventually, because of the ridiculous straying, Ivan Salis added his comments nay-saying the strayers whose "points" had nothing to do with the OP. Negatives supporting negatives. Doesn't make sense!
