Went out to a spot I started hunting this year and pulled up an 1855 large cent. My first. I thought it was a button at first, but I couldn't feel a shank. So i rubbed it a bit and could see the "cent" on the reverse. The biggest surprise was that it was only an inch under ground! Jeepers. I love digging in the woods.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice coin! Congratulations on your find!

Looks to be in fairly nice shape. If you haven't already tried this, let it sit for a week or longer in a small pill bottle with enough olive oil to cover it. More details should suddenly emerge. I can see most of the beaded bands in the hair.

Wouldn't mind finding one like that myself. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

congrats on your first LC!
hope you find many more.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep... Niffler

She ain't pretty, but she is a keeper for sure! I once found a Colonial copper coin on the surface, so you never know!

Nice going!

Good job on your first Largie!

I would love to hear the story of how that coin got to be in the woods . . .
