My guess would be a "Braided Hair" (1837-1857)? try holding a flashlight and shining it across the coin till you get the right detail around the date. If you can post those pics, it may help!
BTW. Congrats on the LC!!!

It's a Coronet LC....I think I see the number 8 where the last number of the date would be.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to where they have all the pics of the LC's. Yours is an early mint of the Coronet. I have found a few of these recently. The facial features on the earlier Cornet LC's is not as pronounced as the later Coronet LC's. The chin is the giveaway for me. Great find....

Yea i think CE is right, my book just calls it "Matron Head Modified"? But yea i guess that means Coronet. I see the "_____" under "One Cent" so it cant be Braided Hair they didn't have that line.

FlyinRyan...: The LC in your avatar is a Coronet LC.

Awesome, thanks for the ideas. I have not found a LC that has been legible yet. Haha

I've also seen them called Liberty Head LC's.

Try soaking in very hot peroxide and light massaging with baking soda paste in between soaks. You may be shocked at how much detail comes out! See a post of mine about a 2 cent piece I found. I have before and after shots. Amazing.

Of course just the "color" of the coin looks like it's a braided hair, but I assume you washed it with water which is why it kinda looks "rusty". Definitely an earlier large cent.

I've noticed that too. Thanks for the heads up...

Yep. Either one is correct. I know I've mentioned them as "Matron Head" large cents in my videos, so I didn't wanna be wrong. lol

Haha I was initially so confused lol. Thanks for the input everybody, it is much appreciated.

I usually don't clean my coins but figured I couldn't tell what it was anyway. Here's a better picture.
