Hello all, this is my first post on the TreasureNet forum. I am an avid hunter of Native American artifacts, and I have many more interesting finds to share.

I found this pointed stone in Connecticut along an eroded riverbank where I have found many nice smaller points. It is the largest pointed stone I've found and displays many qualities of a manmade artifact. It measures 7 11/16" in length with a width of 1". I'm wondering what you all think about this stone, whether it be a spearhead, pointed hand tool, or just a rock.

I am thinking that its just a rock, but there are certainly more expert folks here that will comment soon. Keep hunting!

Welcome. That material is not suitable for tool-making. It is not rigid enough and couldn't withstand the stress of usage. It's just a rock.

Mica Schist seems to match the rock I have, along with some other rocks I've come across at the sight. You're right about its strength, the stone isn't very durable, it starts to flake every time I pick it up to look at it. I was suspicious of the stone for that reason, thank you for the identification and knowledge.

Considering the mulitude of artifacts I've found at the site, the rock's pointed irregular shape, and the astetic qualities of Mica Schist, it could have been a decorative piece of sorts before it started to flake and weather over the centuries. I'll have to post some of the amazing artifacts I found there sometime.

It is mica schist, a metamorphic rock. Love to see some of your other finds.

I'm looking forward to seeing them. Don't wait too long.

Here are a couple blades from the same place that I was able to snap some pictures of quickly.

No artifacts in post #9. No evidence of human hands at work.

Sorry all pictures posted are just rocks, not artifacts.

Hi there CapQuartz!
Welcome to the forum.
No artifacts of any kind there. But the CT River was a NA Highway. Keep at it!
