Hi all. I've had my Tejon since before ground thaw of this year, have made excellent finds, and totally love the machine! This puppy reaches down there and touches them quite to my satisfaction. But, can I squeak more depth out of it with a bigger coil? How much more depth ? (I am in sweet black loam). Is a larger coils reach (added depth) worth the additional expense? I use this machine primarily in farm fields, plowed and unplowed and go for deep and or small relics. I'm quite ok with leaving it with the factory shipped coil, but if a larger coil adds additional/noticeable performance, I might grab one. I see the 12x10 spoked coil listed in the catalogue for the uMax and wonder if it works on the Tejon also? Thanks.

Just needed confirmation, thanks buddy.

We can make the longer cable shorter as needed (no cost), but prefer the customer get the proper length the first time.

Or you can go with the 3"X18" Clean Sweep Coil.

That is actualy a viable option for the plowed fields here, although I'd lose some depth. Unfortunately this year my main permissioned fields are in Canola, which means foot tall super thick tough stalks. It's really ugly to swing through with a lot of falsing from the rough treatment. I may actualy have to get the smallest viable coil for my Tejon, go figure eh. I guess a guy has to roll with the conditions.

Going for deep and/or small relics I'm curious. Have you searched using all metal with the threshold tone humming in the background? I have noticed the Tejon will pick up smaller stuff in audible all metal way better than if you had some discrimination. I recently dug a couple 1/2" rifle balls in the 6-7" range in audible all metal. They came in loud and clear. But, when I turned the disc knob up just past the click clockwise the signal was just a faint tick.

I run wide open all metal on descrim 1 buddy, basicly zero descrim, clicked just above the tone. Today I picked up two tiny pieces of fur trade silver, three musket balls and various fur trade related iron bits. I might toss some pics up at year end, of what I've found with my first season with the Tejon. One of the bags has 25+ late 1700's trade rings. It blows my mind what I've found with this machine.
Scroll down to see a few.

hi, from what I've read up on this it is the same as the vaquero regarding coils. The 10x12 wide scan will most likely give you less depth but more stability and coverage. to my knowledge the stock coil will give you the best performance for depth. Good luck.

Wow!!I have to wholeheartedy disagree with you.I never take the 10x12 off of My Tejon, and I have dug Silver Dollar sized coins at 21",cant say that any other coil is going to give you that depth. This coil also has really good separation qualities.

My mistake, I just ordered the 10x12 for the vaquero. I read as many review on this coil I could find and initially it didn't look like the coil was any type of improvement over the stock regarding depth, however other posts and discussions indicate otherwise. I hope it works as well on the vaq as it does for you.

:thumbsup:Its a great combo on the Tejon!
