I had a chance to get out just one more time in 2008, I took it.
I was finding little items, bucks, rivet, and brass.
After digging a hole and retrieving a buck, I stood up and
tripped over my shovel. I fell forward landing aqwardly on
my head. The pain was overwhelming. I tried to stand up
but had some difficulty. After a few tries, I made it to my
feet. It took me over 1 hour to make it 50 yards out of the
field to my truck. I was using my detector and shovel as
crutches. Once I made it to my truck I called my wife to
come get me. I was unable to drive.
After a trip to the ER and a few tests and shots, I was told
it was a severe muscle strain. Better than a disc.
Anyway, Here are my finds for awhile, as I am stuck in
bedd for awhile yet. :-\

Sorry about the fall. It's rough sometimes for sure. I"m reminded of something my ex-wife said by a couple of the responses here, lol... I was under the edge of a 62 nova removing fender bolts on a cold winter day and the bolt I was trying to remove broke and the ratchet hit me hard on the right eyebrow. It split my eyebrow wide open but I stayed under there until I got the last bolt out. (I stayed under there because I had sold the front clip and a guy was on the way to pick it up)..... When I crawled out from under there I must have looked like I had been dealt a death blow by the reaction of my kids. I had blood all over me and wearing a white tee shirt made it look worse. When I walked into the house my former wife said in a cold, loud, sarcastic, unforgiving, demon possessed voice "WHAT DID YOU DO THAT FOR?". I stood there for a minute and said " I guess I got bored stiff under that car and decided I would beat myself in the face with a ratchet ".... Well, I think she believed me because she gave me another scathing look, lol!!! It's funny now but at the time I saw a lot less humor in it, lol... Get well soon buddy!

Oh my gosh. Glad to hear you'll be ok. That is pretty scary, and a reminder that we should probably take cell phones with us out in the fields or woods.

Get better soon.

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear about that...I hope you're okay very soon. And yeah, can't picture Civil trying to get you out....that would have been a cartoon moment. Feel better real soon...and take it easy. Minime

Goodness, thats not good. Take care of yourself, those relics will wait :)

Jeez, What a story, I hope you recoperate soon.

Sorry to hear you got hurt. We all feel your pain. We are all in the same boat with you. Metal detectors all place ourselves in less than ideal situations. Rough uneven ground. Over grown terrain. Rubble. Braches. Roots. Logs. Bees. Snakes. Focused only the ground right in front of our feet. Sharp tools. Wet slippery mud. Broken glass. Rusted metal. This is not a hobby for a delicate person. We have to be a little tough. Get well soon...there are coins, silver, gold waiting to be discovered!

Thanks everyone!!!
I appreciate all of the well wishes.
The hardest thing is not being able to hunt or knowing
when I can hunt. Luckily I caught up on all of my home
chores before the fall.
Good luck to all and Happy New Year!!!

Dadgum, sorry to hear about that. Hope you make a fast recovery! Tim

If I am ever hunting in the woods or off the beaten track, I take a good strong friend with me. Timberrrrrrrrr! Look out below....Get well quick and HH.......NGE

Dang, sorry to hear about the injury and glad it was nothing more serious. I'm preparing to return to the States for good this Summer and I've got a few more leads on sites to hunt. These all belong to family or friends of family so gaining permission is very likely. Regardless, I am looking at Frederick, Middle Town, Laytonsville, and Lovettsville. Some I already have permission and others are being worked. Perhaps we can hook up for a few hunts when I return. Get well soon.

Sorry to hear about the fall! Good thing you had a cell phone. HH, Mike

When you take up this hobby, you never think there's anything dangerous about it except for maybe poking your finger with your own digger :-[

Your incident brings back not-so-fond memories of being in a tot lot last year and whacking my head against a low-hanging climbing bar that I didn't see..it actually knocked me down!

Glad you're ok Ty, and you were conscious enough to use what you had available to get some help.

Be careful,
Nat
