Last (and best) find of the year.

Talking with my (step) sister today, the conversation turned to an old National cash register her mom used to have in her restaurant. She went on to explain it hadn't been used since the mid-sixties and that she had it laying in a closet, the best part was when she asked if I wanted it.

Here it is, a model 349 that's going to need a few minor (but rather expensive) parts and a lot of spit `n polish. Great score that will be a nice addition to the basement bar. :wink:

(would appreciate any helpful links for parts, operation etc)

Whatever you do, don't be an idiot and try to 'clean' it yourself. If you want it cleaned, let a professional do it. Otherwise, you will just kill the value of it.

I like taking chances, no fun (or learning) if you don't at least try. I may start with 36 grit splashed with a bit of tarnex, or I could simply start by removing the case, find a good quality lacquer removing agent, use a felt, then cotton buffing wheel (and white gloves so as not to leave finger prints) with jewelers rouge until I achieve the perfect finish and top it off with a good quality lacquer...all while listening to Rush`s " La Villa Strangiato" .

This will be a tedious project but not an overly difficult one, I do hope it presents a challenge so I can appreciate it even more when completed. Never considered myself (or anyone else) an "idiot" for tackling any project no matter the level of difficulty involved. :wink:

(value on this machine is moot, tempering ones comments is priceless)
