I'd say the cross was the best find of the day.

Yeap nice find, 16th century - Knights of the Holy Sepulcher - Pilgrims badge - they normally get bent with the plough :)
Iv'e got one of those also, no pin or fixing on the back of these items, not sure about them being a pilgrims badge look way to modern.

I agree not strickly a pilgrims badge but they are sold with that description:

Medieval 'The Knights of the Holy Sepulchre' Brass Bracteate
Copper Alloy, 1.53 grams; 23.02 mm. Circa early 16th Century or earlier. A large and extremely well preserved example of a repousse cross crosslet emblem/badge. This badge is of The Knightly Order of The Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. Ref: Similar to Medieval Pilgrim and Secular Badges by Michael Mitchiner; p 244, No 939-941. Good Very Fine condition.

Want to buy a Pilgrim badge ?. No seriously there just modern pressed copper sheet. The back is completely hollow probably some sort of leather decoration. They do look nice though, I will try to dig out the one i've got.

This is the third place I have seen those in the past week. I once shared the opinion they were not old being such thin brass, but apparently they are. (very old)

Re: Last night & tonight

Here's some pics of mine, note the solder mark on the back. The whole object is extremely light and flimsy, very cheaply produced.
