Last silver of '08 and first silver (?) of '09, plus other things.
Went out Wednesday, the 31st, to my old reliable amusement park woods. Battled the snow and frigid winds and finally came up with a nice 1945 Mercury dime.
Went out again today, January 1, 2009 to another wooded area. Not nearly as cold as yesterday and the ground was still soft in the woods. There was just a light frozen crust in some spots, which presented no deterence to my woods digger. I found this curious sliver colored Lincoln Memorial Penny. I'm wondering if anyone has seen such a penny before. It seems to be more sharply struck and slightly bigger than a regular penny. A look at the edge appears to show a sandwich effect, with two outer layers over an inner core. What do you think?
