No it was real complicated but it worked.
first in the "i'm looking for" box about 20 words were used like "rolex - rolls royce - etc" then on the far left you checked oof a few boxes. what popped up were million dollar auctions, I then went to the very end where there was 1 cent auctions ready to close and bid on several. I didn't use my sniping service because I was in a hurry. I lost every auction. I want to try again and SNIPE. My auctions get sniped all the time, thats the name of the game nowadays.

Best media (books + videos) for how to spot good things at garage sales?

I think this is the topic you are looking for started by TreasureHunter. Look for reply by Batcap about halfway in. Topic is still on front page.

I go to sales, see what they have and look it up via android ebay app. However when I'm curious to know what peculiar things people are buying I use eBay at home. See the crazy stuff that shows up when you do this:

At eBay paste in this search term: vintage -car -trailer -Rolex -airstream -camper -Gibson -fender -motorcycle -truck -chopper -racer -bus -boat -watch -chronograph -Harley -Mercedes -Porsche -ford -Chevrolet -bicycle -ring -jewelry -Royce -Bentley
That will bring up all kinds of old stuff and partially block known large and obvious big ticket items.
click "sold listings"
sort by "price: highest first"
select "auction only"

Now scroll through the results. Who'da guessed 2 western electric vacuum tubes would be worth $16,000?
JBL Speakers - $25,000
Magic -the Gathering cards $23,000
Star Wars toy $20,000
Marantz Amp $16,000
Train passes $12,000
And so on, and on, and on. Take your time and work your way down to the $200 -$300 range. Nobody can write a thorough and up-to-date book about the crazy stuff collectors will buy because interests change with every season. Your brain can find patterns that lists just can't offer. As you work your way down you might be surprised to find how often you see loudspeaker horns right on the first page. I've never seen one for sale, but now I know there's a market for them. Modify my search phrase as you see fit; I don't have much space, so I look for smalls.

Thank you treasure hunter, thats it. I will copy and save in my computer.
playing around yesterday I bought 4 rough gemstones
bought (sniped) at the last few seconds.

9.80CT. CORNFLOWER BLUE NATURAL SAPPHIRE AFRICA .99¢
33.42CT. REDISH PINK NATURAL RUBY MOZAMBIQUE $1.04
14.76CT. YELLOWISH GREEN NATURAL SPHENE MADAGASCAR .99¢
2 PIECES 8.20CT. BLOOD RED NATURAL RUBY MADAGASCAR .99¢

How do you snipe?
I usually use www.ezsniper.com I think they charge 10¢ for sucessful snipes and 0 if you don't win.

But for these I didn't care if I won so a minute or two before the auction closes I bid the max I want to pay and then a second window pops up asking if I really want to bid. It also has a count down clock that sometimes stops. I wait till 7 seconds are left and click CONFIRM BID and wait to see what happens. Lost a bunch but won four. I also set the filtering to free shipping only. All my winnings come out of Cambodia and Thailand. I'm not going to pay shipping from there.

10 cents sounds extremely cheap. Are you sure it's not by %, and you're only getting charged that because it's inexpensive items? Esnipe used to be a dollar per win, but at some point it change to % and I had no idea! I always back up my bidding with a snipe, and before if I missed one it was no big deal, just an extra dollar. It's only recently when I starting blowing through my bid points like crazy did I go check and see what it was going on. I had things I was bidding on in the hundreds and not really being worried about missing them because it was only going to cost me a dollar.... well not anymore!

Does your service ever fail? That's the one good thing about esnipe, very very rarely does it mess up.

IP: It says 10¢ right on the website.
Dan: Just out of curiosity, why do you wait til the final seconds to use the sniper? Isn't that the whole point of using a sniper?

I would like to know if they actually send you the stones that they are advertising.

I can tell you why I do it. If you override your bid you don't pay. I snipe when I'm off the computer, but use it as a back up for all bids and it has saved me many times for various reasons. If I wasn't so set in my ways I'd try the 10 cent site.

I remember one time a guy had about 42 listings on and all ending at the same time. I like this in the way that other bidders have no times to adjust to go higher, but dislike it because if I bid a few minutes early which is how long it would take to bid on all 42, they have plenty of time to push me up, or outbid me. So I set snipes for them all and won 37, and talk about getting smoked for fees right off the top. I think it was still a buck a pop then, so a $37 bill before I even paid the guy.

You really have me curious now... What were you bidding on that you won 37 auctions off the same guy? Did you actually get any good deals on that lot?

Coins, mostly lots, and it was good enough that even though $37 is $37, it didn't really amount to anything in this deal because it was very good. I knew going in I would win most so it wasn't really a surprise. I did a little string of wins fairly recently too, and you got to love those guys who charge very high shipping. :) That probably has your interest too, but maybe I should shut up and stop giving away the trade secrets. 8-)

This was only when I was manually sniping, just playing around.
I use esnipe when I spot something in advance that I want.

I always narrow the search down to FREE SHIPPING. that way I do not have to worry about a 99¢ win and a $5 ship charge.
