Relic Hunting
With cold weather and wind chill indexes in the teens expected today, Doug and I hunted a late 1700s Tennessee homestead yesterday while the afternoon temperature was 61 degrees. Even then, the ground had not completely thawed from the unseasonable cold last week. Our finds from yesterday’s hunt are shown on the blue towel. The little cuff button that I dug may have a design but I’ll need to soak it for a while yet. Doug had the best find with the brass trigger guard in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] pic. As you will see in the video, I tried to get Doug to hunt Civil War relics with me today but he declined.
It was 32 deg. this morning when I left home to hunt the Williams Cleaner camp that is still producing relics. When I arrived, the temperature was 27 with a strong NW wind. I dug the relics in the pic. One of the bullets is a .56 cal. Colt Revolving Rifle bullet along with a Merrill carbine. The bullet frozen in the clod looks like a Williams Cleaner. I let it ride in the truck bed on the way home where I have threatened to make Doug ride for aggravating me on many occasions-LOL. No danger of it thawing out on the way home as the temperature had dropped to 23 and Nashville had an 11 deg. Wind chill value when I left the camp.
We are expecting much warmer weather next week so stay tuned as we have some new sites waiting to be checked. HH, Doug & Quindy.
Special Note-Our Congrats to Modern Miner who is featured on the cover of the March Western & Eastern Treasures Magazine.

Great video as usual guys and I'm a member of the wimp crew as well.Sunday was a great day to get out for us too,not too many good days coming up.Congrats to Modern Miner, can't wait to read that issue. I had no idea Creskol was a Tennessee boy!

If that wind had increased 5 more mph Cgirl, I may have wimped out yesterday too-LOL. HH, Q.

Great finds Quindy and another fantastic video. We are still trying to get out. Had to cancel the last two weekends but hope we can make it to our Alabama campsite this Saturday down near Chattanooga.

Randy, it will take day or two for the ground to thaw here and the top freeze dried and is hard packed. The rain this weekend will help. Good luck in Choo Choo, Q.

Im 59 and having a hard time getting up and down myself. I use my entrenching tool to push myself up and may buy one of those fancy shovels someday too. I like you guys stories. Keep them coming.

We hope to RD66. Good luck & HH, Q.

Couldn't watch the video here at work but I like the relics. Wish I was out digging. Only been out once this year, and that was a during a business trip to Norfolk, VA.

It's certainly not like the last 2 years Steve as I recall that you were able to hunt most weekends then. Take care my friend, Q.

Thanks for taking the time to put the video together for us to enjoy, and nice background music.

If I ever dig a 3 ringer in clay I'd be inclined to soak it in a 50/50 mix of elmer's glue and water for a few days and let it dry out for display like that. Down this way we have sandy soil that falls apart quickly so it would be difficult to do that. I'll still take sandy soil over clay any day. 8-)

We had a good time hunting the pioneer site and I hope we get to get out again next week. I WILL be wearing my lucky green shirt, so there!

Well there goes the neighborhood. I'm gonna have to put "Return to Sender" on that magazine now. :D

Nice work on those bullets. A Colt Revolving Rifle round is a rare find indeed!

Cheers,

Buck

Another entertaining video. Congrats to Modern Miner on the magazine and to you and Dman on more nice finds.

Doug recovered a .58 cal. 3 ringer in the clod from a Gen. John Hunt Morgan CSA Cavalry Camp and sprayed it with clear polyurethane and it came out well and stable. Thanks for looking, Q.

I've got a Smith carbine bullet that is still in the dirt clod. Picket it up in a plowed field on top of the ground so I just left it like it was, still have it and that was around 30 years ago.

BB, that is the only camp where I have dug any .56 cal. revolving Rifle bullets. Good luck if you can get out next Tuesday my friend, Q.

Thanks OD. Are you sure you don't want us to send Dman to hunt with you?-LOL. HH, Q.

They do look good like that Donnie (tenn. digger). You will see the one in the pic unveiled in our next video. See you next week, Q.

Have you tried the Elmer's method, Dug? Something to file away for later use....

Thanks JB-certainly not a pro but like to see fellow diggers enjoy the videos. I have another ready to plug 2 hunts into next week. The only problem is that when I'm videoing, I'm not digging-LOL HH my friend, Q.
