Had a great time yesterday hunting our Confederate Artillery site. This site was where the Confederate placed their cannons to protect the railroad bridge below they were holding. The area changed hands several times early in the war and ended up being a large Union winter camp. The site also was where a college was before it burned down in the late 1850's. The top of the hill is loaded with the old red bricks from the college. The ground is very hot due to the bricks and the pulse machines are the only machines that will penetrate the hot soil. Everyone found great relics. Mark was the man of the day with his anchor button. May be Confederate from what I have seen so far but we are still researching. Sham found an outstanding Eagle "I" button loaded with gold gilt. We have dug a lot of Eagle "I" buttons from this site. He also found a very ornate badge. Bob found a few buttons and a nice knapsack hook. I found a few buttons and what may be the cap to the end of a Parrott shell.
