Relic Hunting
Hello everyone! Got out on the 12th to do a little relic hunting since it has been raining for a week solid around here. It was very windy and cold (20 degree wind chill) but this nice little copper half cent warmed me right up. At first I was unsure what I had, but after looking at it under my jewlers loop in the field, I noticed some details and identifiers. According to my research, this coin was only minted from 1794-1797 (Liberty Head facing right with the bee hive behind her head). I have been on a copper role for the past few months now and my research keeps paying off for the early sites. My silver streak continues with the 1939 G. Washington Quarter. Got a few buttons, umbrella pieces, buckle, old round ball, and lead seal. Barber Quarter found by my friend Wild Bill. Thanks for looking and HH to all!

Spectacular find! Not many Liberty Cap's come out of the ground. The rest of your finds were just icing on the cake. Way to go!

Bill, how old are the pewter musketballs? Until recently, after reading one of your post, I had no idea they made pewter roundballs. I have about 10 roundballs of different sizes that look like they are all cracked and falling apart so I assume they are pewter? Most have been found on confirmed sites from 1740's-1800, Thanks again Bill!

Congrats on that early copper Wes. It's been a long time since I came home with one of those. That looks like a pewter musketball too. You guys did well.

congrats on the half cent... amazing!

What an incredible, and rare, coin find! A Liberty Cap Half Cent?!? Those are not pulled out very often. An incredible piece of history! Congrats Brother! Banner worthy for sure! You got my vote!!!

Nice copper! I've got a lot of those particular lead seals...must have been a pretty common commodity!

Thanks Nate! When I researched some sites on the old Copper Coins it appeared to me that this was indeed a RARE coin to find not to mention finding one with a metal detector. Thanks for the Banner nomination.

It seems I find them around railroad tracks more than anywhere else. I just can not make any detail from it. Thank you for your comments!

Wes I knew that was a scarce coin but failed to recall just how scarce it was. Have you been able to identify exactly what it is? A big congrats my friend on a very very impressive recovery indeed. Most people will never see one of those rare coppers . Keep up the great digs and Merry Christmas to you, Abe

Nice finds congrats!
