I agree, they have the same problem in Germany and the result is the same - people find the treasure and never tell anyone about it out of fear of their own government. This is the worst thing because it means that not only will the finder never get the true value of the treasure but the government will never get a share and most saddening - the citizens of the nation will never be given the opportunity to see the find or even know about it. Historians will never know of the treasure and gaps in historical knowledge that could have been filled will remain empty. Very sad that just a few common sense laws could fix all this yet they are never written or passed.

I have a letter from the GSA Governmental Services Administration, they oversee all the assets of the United States. They have a form for you to fill out identifying where on US property the treasure is located. Then you can get permission to recover a treasure at your own expense. You have to be protective of any historical artifacts and as far as hard specie or bullion the government retains and the discover after all expenses gets 50% of the value of the treasure. It does not sound like a bad deal to me at all.

If the treasure is on private property then you have to secure written permission to dig and recover the treasure. The same rule applies as above once the treasure is recovered except now you have to split your 50% with the landowners.

Ah, but then after you get your 50%, the IRS comes to get their percent of that 50%. Ya can't win. :BangHead:

when the CONFEDERATE GOVT .. suirrendered to the US GOVT ...as payment for the cost of commenting war upon the confederate govt ...all confederate govt owned assets were forfeited to the US GOVT as "payment for the war" debt owned

so if confederate govt owned gold -- "official" CSA treasury gold is found --it is the US GOVT position that it is "theirs , all theirs and only theirs" --you get zippo- ,nada , nothing at all no finders fee --nothing ----- so if you find some CSA gold and say squat about it and old uncle sugar finds out --kiss it good bye sucker...

they might not want the "confederate flags" in THEIR "UNION" OWNED NATIONAL PARKS but they will take the "confederate gold" INTO THEIR"UNION" TRESUARY ... gladly...

papa-harley03, resurrecting an OLD post, eh ? This post by Franklin where he telephoned & wrote letters to the govt. folk, is a classic example of "no one cared .... UNTIL you asked".

OH THE US GOVT CARES ...FIND A BIG MONEY TYPE OF TREASURE AND LET THEM FIND OUT ....THEN YOU WILL SEE FIRST HAND EXACTLY JUST HOW MUCH THEY "CARE"...

Tom in CA:

I don't think anyone is going to get into trouble of any kind finding the CSA Treasury gold.

Good luck to all,
