I hope someone that knows answers this post and let's you know what it is. I think you have a layer of agate, but that's not even a swag, it's a plain old guess. I've been watching
"Prospectors" on the flat screen -- aint a tube no more -- and they are digging crystal and other interesting stuff. I need to do some reading and find out how those rocks come about.
Anyhow, I like your rock and would have brought it home myself.

The redish layer, I believe is flint. Hard to tell what the other layers are without holding this sedimentary piece

Definitely flint or chert. looks like it is layered in between chalk, which is a typical to find flint. Yooper had it right. Kinda looks like carter cave chert from KY.
