This is probably just an old lead fishing weight, but I need to confirm that fact! I found it about 10 inches down in the middle of a swamp that is currently dry. It's crude, hand made and looks like a pendant to me. It measures roughly 7/8" wide by 1 3/4" high.

I found a couple of pics of similar items that were found metal detecting and are allegedly Indian artifacts from the 1700's. Not sure if that's true, but that's what the article stated.

Please give me your opinion on this item and whether or not it's an artifact or a lead weight! Thanks.

Here's a couple of pics of my find and then two pics I found with a Google search:

If it gave you a signal it's lead and the marks on the side look it be some type of imprint that came from something that is modern. Cool find:thumbsup:

Yes, it's definitely lead. The article mentioned that the lead pendants were traded to the Native Americans, not made by them. Here's the article:

Indian Artifact Relic Neck Pendant

My first guess would be that it held a duck decoy in place or something to that effect

Wash it up a bit if it will come clean
