Lead Knuckles. Who'da Thunk It? :0

So my buddy Lisa and I went on a hunt yesterday. She was especially excited to go as she had just got her new F75 in the mail the day before. We headed out to one of our favorite spots and spent the day trying to figure out the new machine and digging up relics.

Lisa dug up an item and I thought I had seen it before. Something to do with a tent, maybe? We called Quindy to seek advice on how to set up the F75 and told him of the find she had made.

We usually end up finding stuff that we have no idea what the items are. And that was no different on this hunt either. :P

I love to find the old buckles, so I was pleased to have found this one to add to my collection...

Last dig of the day I had no idea what it could be. A large something-or-other made out of lead. Lisa and I looked it over and laughed at how odd it looked. We tried to imagine what it could be. It looked like the shape of brass knuckles...but lead? Nah, that couldn't be it.

So I tossed 'em in with the rest of the stuff and headed home. Later that evening I mailed Quindy and sent some pics of our finds and a little update on Lisa's learning process of the new machine. Today I was out cleaning up the back 40 and get a phone call. Quindy starts off with, "Nana! Do you have any idea what you two girls dug up yesterday?" Ummmmm....."What Quindy?!" That's when he starts to explain that those funny looking lead knuckles are quite special and so is that tent tensioner. Civil War, you say? Woop! We've found the CW era bullets and buttons and even the end of a Confederate sword (pommel) (of which I had no idea) scattered around here, but wow was I surprised to learn about this chunk of lead. I think from now on I'll send Quindy pics of every single relic we dig up. lol
Have a great weekend!

Now thats a very groovy find!

BANNER find there Nana!!!! Sure don't see lead knuckles found too often. That is a way cool find. :hello2:
You got my vote.
Congrats to both of you ladies.
Good luck to Lisa with that F75. Quindy said his help line is open 24/7 for anyone needing help dialing one in. Light up that phone people.

That's Awesome. WTG

One more thing, you should send that picture to either North/South Trader magazine or American Digger or both. That is a "magazine worthy" relic and once again, thanks goes to Quindy. He is a real asset to our hobby. He also puts up with me and Dman :laughing9:!!! Tennessee digger

They are rare because the first time you use them they weld onto your hand and you have to cut them off. Lol great find quite cool. I have found several of those line tensioners thought they were more modern.

Yes,do keep everything you dig,and either hang onto to it,or have somebody that really knows their stuff look it over.I hold onto everything, and am amazed at what my feeble mind can retain when I see something posted, and I can recall that."Hey,I dug one of those, and now I know what it is!"

I will say again, lead knuckles are ultra rare, and yours appear to have been used....even more cool!!!!!They seem to be more "common",in Confed. camps as they were often low on ammo, and they knew hand to hand was likely.Ocassionally we see a set pop up in a non-military setting as well, and it is surmized a gambler type or "bandit",was likely the past owner

Very cool BANNER

This rare find needs to be on BANNER. Remember-if you don't click on the red "Nominate Banner" on the top of Nana's post, the Moderators can't consider it for banner. Just saying "Banner" won't count. FYI & HH, Quindy.

That's so bad ass

The item in the top of the pie plate,,,what is it? I have found this before. Congrats on the find!!!

The tent tensioner or the harmonica reed

Nana, That is banneriffic!! Vote is in.

Yes, MM. I can always count on Quindy to help. And just in case anyone else needs the number...BR-549. :laughing7:
And Tennessee Digger.....I'll probably have Quindy to send the pics in....especially since he's kindly already offered. :icon_thumleft:

I did find a link that had a bit of information on the compass....it's about 3/4 down the page....

Thanks again for all the super comments and helpful information! I expect I wouldn't know much of anything about the relics I have dug up if it weren't for folks that didn't mind sharing valuable tid-bits.
