I have been having health issues that are preventing me from swingin right now. Hopefully I will be back at it soon. They have constructed a new district office at the entrance to the older scout camp I detect. The camp ranger gets to see pictures of all my finds and he said it would be nice to have some of these items for display in the new building. I did a very elaborate display for the other camp I detect, but I knew they wanted that from day one. I have detected here for 24 years and have not saved much of the stuff I found so I had to do some digging through my junk piles for recent finds and look back at photos to see what I could come up with. Luckily I did have a few interesting things tucked away that could be displayed so I made up some Ryker boxes and other display boxes for the dedication next month.

A small assortment of tent pegs:

A neckerchief slide assortment:

Some appreciation gifts given to leaders who attend camp with their scouts (mine, not detector finds):

A few recent finds that date from the time before the camp was built:

An assortment of lost scout items:

The most unusual find for display was this belt ammunition from 1977. Found long ago, reassembled (each piece of belt and cartridge found separately) and miraculously saved by me. The method of the display construction was tricky, but it works:

I did find a couple of pennies walking around. My back was so bad for the first one I had to get my wife to pick it up for me when I spotted it on the parking lot. I also found 2 dimes at the convenience store. I found one in the parking spot next to my truck when I pulled up. The next day I parked in the same spot and found another dime in the exact same spot in the same parking space as the day before. Both were tails up. It looks like the parking space is generating dimes for me to find. LOL

A bunch of interesting things for the new building. Not today’s finds exactly, but displays made today so at least the work is recent. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.

Nice displays, the scouts should appreciate them. In today’s soft world, it’s nice to get a glimpse at what the scouts were trusted with in the past (knives, saws, hatchets etc). Not coincidentally, they really looked like young army recruits around WWII times.

Thank you for the reply. You are right about the scouts looking like army recruits. I joined the Cub Scouts in 1958 and went all the way to Eagle in the Boy Scouts. Most of my scout gear was WW2 army surplus bought for anywhere from a dime to a quarter per item at a surplus store 15 miles from my house. (I lived out in the sticks) I still have most of the gear.
Thanks again, stay safe, good luck and keep swingin.
