Can anyone assist in identifying the age, make, or origin of this lead toy soldier?

If it is solid lead it could be older than hollow figures made by companies like Barclay and Manoil in the 20th century. Possibly made somewhere in Europe in the late 19th century. The coat with a double row of buttons isn't very common so I'd look for pics on-line with that feature. Also, in most 20th century lead figures the arms and legs are more animated. In this case however, the arms are along the sides. The hat is also plain. I examined several photos on-line but was unable to find a match. Good luck.

I would also say police, lae 19th early 20th century.

If not that, french soldiers in teh ww1 had ridged helmets and I think double breasted cloacks.

But for a french soldier it lacks a white flag..:laughing7:

Ha!

I empty the contents of my nose in your general direction! Hoo ever saw a Courier de Bois without ze full busche? After all, the French word for mustache is moustache! We don't call them Schnurrbarts! It was Napolean's Army that put those genes IN the Germanic States. ;-)

I'm probably reading way too much into this, but it appears that his head is cocked and he is looking up and squinting. Or maybe that brownie I ate at work had medicinal properties I wasn't aware of. Hmmm...

I would have guessed too a WW1 French soldier going by the helmet and coat. But as already said, he's missing his white flag. This would have greatly speeded up the process in getting him ID'd. Lol Nice piece by the way. Congrat's.

HA!

Laugh if you want, but we'd still be speaking English now in America if the French hadn't helped us out in the Revolutionary War.

Yeahh, that quite story isnt it. Thats actually the second generation. His father was the slave boy given to prussian prince as present while touring egypt and later a favoured manservant of the prince. Campfollower in uniform in all the wars.

The man in the picture was conductor and bandleader in a prussian regiment. Discriminanted shamefully as "halfbred" by the Nazis. With bitter irony, his sons were only quarter black and therefore eligible for millitary service. One died on the eastern front.

There are still living descendants in Germany btw.

Don't kid a kidder. Those guys left France and moved to Canada so they could grow mustaches, eh. Canada - where men are men and women aren't (and some of them have mustaches...).
