Hey guys, Can't figure this out so I thought I would pick your guys brains. So this lead piece has iron inside it. It was found in an area where Civil war and Railroad artifacts are found. I used a penny for size comparison. Any help would be appreciated..

Lead nail? So this one must not have been used? What were they used for? Why lead on the top?
