Get a versatile, friendly, powerful machine, that you can have fun with!
Mid-line works, and very likely a machine that can have other coils used with it, too.
Living in the SE States..., you might consider a water-proof one, to extend your hunting season.

Thanks everybody! I'm very excited to get started, doing a lot of research right now. Might be making a hunt with a borrowed detector from my grandfather-in law (is that even a term?) this weekend. My work partner just joined on here as well (juggernaut555), so we've got a team ready to go!
