I have only found one quartz piece in my area in my 45 years of hunting here and it was a nice Hafted Scraper. I have a few others that I have gotten as gifts though.

Here's what I have.

The first picture is the Hafted Scraper I found in southern Ohio.

The 2nd picture is some pieces from South Carolina.

The 3rd is some Hixton Triangles from Wisconsin.

The 4th is from Georgia.

The last one is from Pennsylvania.

I've also have one from Virginia that I just got from Thirty7, but I haven't gotten a picture of it yet. It looks very similar to the ones posted by jpitt1970.

Here are a few of the better pieces from our property. The point I think is a Halifax, and a few other tools.

I'd say a dozen or so of these are from WV and a few from Md, and Pa., the rest are all from various areas of Virginia. Material ranges from low grade, coarse grained quartzite to finer grained grades of crystal quartz, milky quartz, vein quartz, etc.

ok 37 your the man. That last pic is awsome

I didn't realize that quartz was used that much, I wonder how many heads I have overlooked?
Thanks for the pics!

Finally got around to it. Nothing spectacular but a good example on the majority of our artifacts in this area. There is a really nice hafted spoke shave in there and a couple decent points. Half a savannah river. aguilford round base, and lots of triangles. I didnt even get into my boxes. Last pic is knives and preforms and scrapers

All personal finds (wife and me) in central GA. Our most common material is coastal plains chert but we do find a fair amount of quartz crystal, quartzite and vein quartz of which the below are made of. We find literally 100's of crude archaic points made of a milky more "sugary" quartz but these are our best quartz pieces.

1. Clovis (red area indicates digital restoration)
2. Early Side Notch
3. Early Side Notch
4. Early Side Notch
5. Archaic Stemmed
6. Quad
7. Unknown Paleo
8. Dalton (ortho-quartzite)
9. Waller Knife (rare in quartz)

Man.....some of these photos are breathtaking pics! I really love those glass like artifacts. I wonder if the men and women who made these actually appreciated the beauty of the material. I think they did. I like to imagine that there was a rivalry within the tribes as to who made the best. It is an inherent instinct to be better.
That is how we evolve.

Nice photos and great topic.

Alright !! , even O' Pig can play this game !!

Quartz Points are for the most part the norm here in N. San Diego county , maybe represent 60 % +/_ ?? of the points I've collected .

JPEGcrystals.webp

These crystals were collected from habitation "area's" , and seem to be the source of the clear / optical quartz points . I've read from a few source's [?] that at lest locally , there was a belief that a arrow with a crystal point would fly truer and faster ...??? The black crystal in the pic is tourmaline , I have one crude point made from this .
so WOW, crystal paleo and a bunch of other fine points here ,... :icon_thumright:
