Hello all. I dug this one a few days ago. Its in rough condition but looks worse in the pics. Dates mostly gone but seems like I can make out the top half of 1793. Two questions I have: my coin only weighs @ 8 grams. They were minted at @14g and @ 10g. Can a coin lose weight? And if its what I think it is what could its value be in preasent condition? If its not what else could it be? I guess thats 3 questions. Any help is much appreciated.

I don't know when they started putting the ridges around the edge of American coins, but the started doing it because people would slice off the gold/silver from the outer edge. So I'd dsy yea, coins could lose some weight. Nice find.

Looks like a Draped bust.

I did get this one id'd. Its a 1797 draped bust. It did lose about 2 grams.
