I believe the lighter was designed to fit it to some sort of base holder IMO

nice lighter

I found one in the woods a few years ago and did a lot of research on it.
Similar to yours and both have a little spot you could inscribe letters or a name.
That fancy box you see on one side.
They had different holders you could slip them into to change them into table models but these were designed to carry around in smoker's pockets and purses.
Check out the ad, these "Standard" models sold from $5.50 on up according to the print on the bottom back in the day.
If this is just one of the cheapest models that would be about a $75 lighter in today's money.
Lighters of any kind have always been one of my favorite treasures to find in this hobby.

Did lots of research on the Ronson Art Metal Co. trying to track down its age of these things and manufacture date and I narrowed mine down to between 1939 and 1948.

This one, and yours, is called the "Standard", a pretty popular line made in 78 different styles over the years starting in 1928 and discontinued in 1953.
The ad is from 1946.

Ronson invented the very first "Automatic" lighter called the "Banjo" because of its shape in 1928 using Auermetal, something we now call flints, and it quickly led to this style.
"Press, it's lit...Release, it's out" was one of their tag lines

Great find!

Seriously fantastic find. Put that one on display.

Very nice find! :occasion14:

Thank you Digger. I really hadn't gotten a chance to do any research. Once i finish cleaning the mud off the top, it'll go in my China cab that my great grandpap hand made.
