Like a CW belt plate but small and engraved

Hi all,
hoping someone may have seen something like this, 1.5" X 3". Sash ornament or maybe a scabbard plate? I've tracked down a person matching the last name and what I think is the first initial, but seems too early for this pieces design. (Isaac Coffin, it was recovered at a Colonial era governors mansion) maybe someone knows when lead filled sheet brass items started being made. Thanks for looking

Based on the evidence of 6 lugs on the back, my guess would be a trunk or luggage ID

I too think that it's a trunk plate but I've never seen one with a lead back. Maybe somebody has another idea. Nice find by the way.
