Want someone to identify these. I've narrowed it down too a few types. I don't even know if these are original and they certainly never were in the ground. They originate from SE Missouri and the area has tons of limestone.

From what I know of limestone you can not chip it, so that has to be something else.:dontknow:

Definitely can't chip limestone I agree you can sure grind it lol

Ok that is interesting, I am not sure about that but I originally thought it to be a white flint. Novaculite like. There is tons of this stuff in SEMO and plain grey flint. I was told all that white rock is limestone. I will have to do a little research to nail it down, should be easy.

Welcome to t-net. They are reproductions for sure but still neat to see. I am un sure of the material. Maybe a local chert the knapper had access to? You often see guys selling them at flea markets from what I hear on here.

I've checked it out and they are definitely chert and there is tons of it there. I actually live in the Hot Springs AR area. So I have access to places to dig Novaculite of multiple colors. Tons and tons of artifacts and relics in old debris fields. Will post some finds in the near future.

Novaculite is more than likely what it is, I didn't know you where in Hot Springs. I do some hunting for artifacts just south of there in Malvern, the hills and creeks are full of a little of everything.

Well these are Chert replicas I bought from someone a while back in SEMO. There isn't any Novaculite there as far as I know... Yes, we have the pleasure of finding the myriad of Novaculite and Chert things the ground has to offer. Love living here.

Probably Burlington, we just are not used to seeing it that fresh looking.

Same type I was thinking. Most will order the different chert and flint from the net so it would be hard to narrow it down but I would have to say Burlington also.

After looking at some nice ones on the net I'm not certain they are replicas.

Now hold on a sec....You can chip limestone....I have a huge chipped Hoe from Ky,a chipped knife Cen.Tx...and several chipped net weights.I will see ifin I can dig up some pix.

They made lots of stuff out of limestone .... In my area it deteriorates rather fast is the problem I agree with mr geo ;)

The ability to chip will just depend on how much silica is in the material chert is only silica replaced limestone so there will be material that's in transition.. From granular all the way to flint like.
