LINCOLN HEAD PENNY smoking a PIPE???

i recall seeing one of these when i was a little boy. It was a fairly new (20-40 years old) Lincoln Head Penny. Lincoln was smoking a pipe. I am not sure if this was some fake coin, or whether it was actually of some value. I definitely don't have that coin in my collection, but i was just curious to see if anybody had seen one or at least knows some information about it. thanks

What you are referring to is called a 'novelty coin'.

It was produced as a conversation piece. They were popular in the 1970's. There were and still are, many kinds. The one that you described was one of the very popular ones. Another that I can think of is the Lincoln cent with the image of President Kennedy facing Lincoln.

They were sold in novelty shops and other places, usually for a small price. Today, they might be worth about .50c to $1.00. At coin shows, you might find some in 'junque' coin boxes for even less. Regards,

I have one with JFK for sure plus some other designs. I would have to dig into my coin collection to check it out. I bought them at the coin store as a novelty item when I was a kid.
