Had it this morning... "google" Balance Rock - Harkening Hill. Shadows from the Sun created what appears to be a LION'S HEAD from a certain "angle" (position).

Wife & I are gonna go up to it TODAY... take "pics"; look for carvings on surrounding trees. An "over-niter" at THE LODGE! YAY!

Hey Rebel, What does rooms rent for up there at the Lodge, now. Usually reasonable as they have no television or telephones.

True... with AARP card; @ $ 86.00 a nite. Going up @ 11am; check-in @ 3 pm. "Hike" up to JOHNSON FARM; then up Harkening. 2 or 3 Balance Rocks to look at; MAY see Purgatory
Mountain from there... DUNNO.

AND! Ppl thought it was Johnson Orchard... NOPE! Johnson Farm; reading PV's (RIP) book about the history of the area... LOVE IT! BAD news... it is ALL "Fed land". NO MD'ing, NO TH'ing, etc; just hiking, taking "pics", "nosing about"... LOL!

Watch out for those bears they are everywhere up there. The bears will be near the apple orchards mostly at night but be careful anyway.

Been there, done that; FED land... franklin, you have 11 CD-books left at the Bookstore. Restaurant, Bookstore CLOSING at the end of November, 2012; NO MO "over-niters" after that. Place crowded with Vet Day partiers & HOO HAHS... FULL! Franklin, get yer CD-Books and put 'em in Bedford City/County Museum, and Visitors Centers at Bedford City, & Lynchburg... maybe even at Smith Mountain Lake; seen interest at ALL of 'em. Good Luck!

OK, franklin; got ya... BUT! Lodge is CLOSING down PERMANENTLY... there IS NO Spring. YOUR loss.

YEP! For good... they are trying to get a PRIVATE "contract" to keep Lodge going; stuff in Bookstore is/are 50% off; NOT sure about YOUR CD Book (11 copies); NOTHING is being "re-stocked"... doesn't look good. If no private contract appears... Lodge is CLOSED, Nov. 30, 2012. Call 'em.
