little help on this calvary button

I originally put this in civil war, it probably belongs here.Found at a calvary site,most of the items we found were civil war surplus. Button has no back or shank. Was hoping someone would know something about it.

Sure thing. Has thin iron back with no lettering

I believe that your button may actually a bridle rosette. It is the correct size, and it appears to be lead-filled. The horsefly motif is an excellent, humorous design for such an item. I'd say it dates to the late 19th or early 20th century.
