Military Button Help

I was going thru my military buttons for a project. I have not gone thru these in years. I came across one that looked interesting so I googled it. It’s an Eagle with CS in the shield and eleven stars. Two piece brass, 15/16”. The back has an open on the bottom loop shank inserted with a ring of dots and two small marks, one being an anchor. The other I could not make out. It’s in beautiful condition. So….Google says it’s a Civil War Confederate Officer Shield Button and I saw one sold, that looked nowhere near as nice as this one, at a pretty good price. I am no expert in military buttons. It all looks right but the condition is throwing me. Do I actually have an original or is this just a newer button made to look like an original? Thanks for any assistance.

Do you remember where/how you acquired it?

If I remember correctly, I purchased a whole box of metal buttons with military type, picture buttons, etc. all together and this would have been in that box. From one of the Springfield Extravaganza’s, at least 5 years, if not more, ago. (In Springfield, Ohio)

I’ll take a look through my books tonight. If that’s real you have something……unfortunately at first glance I’m saying not original. I’ve been wrong many times before, and for your sake I hope I am again.

At Gare’s prodding, I broke out Albert’s book. The face of your button is a rare CS 3 (in Albert). However in alberts the backmark on a real 22mm cs3 button should read TW&W Paris. Yours does not. Was about to post, but took 5 min to look at tice. Your button there is a cs225……unfortunately it comes with the attached verbiage. Sorry

Well…..it is what it is. My initial euphoric feeling was tempered by the condition of the button. But, I needed to make sure, stranger things have happened. I think I need to add Albert’s Book to my collection as I have a lot of military buttons. I do know I won’t be using it in any competition!
