I found this little guy on a sandbar in the river

It looks like knapping debitage--a waste flake. Also, it looks like it may have been in a fire with its color and that pot-lid fracture. You only have one side shown so what does the other side look like? Can't tell how big it is either. A known coin in the pic would be good for size reference.

Thanks for the last pic. My best guess is that it's a waste flake that wound up in a fire.
 

Not disagreeing, but looks like edge wear from here.

Hello Mr. Bill! I saw that too and interpreted that as a water-worn edge with the presence of both old and fresh "Creek Chatter" (or in this case, "River Chatter"). Still, I can't determine with great accuracy whether it is only a waste flake. That just seems more likely to me. After all, he found it on a sand bar in a river! So, as you sometimes say, "Onward and Upward"!

I know that it's hard to get pictures that allow all the details of an object with a mobile phone.
